Angela Singer has explored the human-animal relationship for over 20 years, driven by her concern with the ethical and epistemological consequences of humans using nonhuman life and the role that humans play in the exploitation and destruction of animals and our environment.
In Familiaris she continues to seek ways of seeing and thinking about the animal. Her sculptural works combine mixed-media with recycled vintage taxidermy to address taxidermic meaning.
Her recent exhibitions include ArtNowNY, New York, 2015; Universcience Cité des sciences et de l’industrie, Paris and Museum of Contemporary Sculpture, Poland, 2014; Royal West of England Academy, UK, Edith Cowan University, Perth, La Luz De Jesus Gallery, Los Angeles, Strychnin Gallery, Berlin and Musei Civici, Palazzo S. Francesco, Italy, 2012. In 2010 she also exhibited her sculpture HedgeRow in the acclaimed Enchanted Palace exhibition at Kensington Palace, London.
Singer’s work has featured in a number of recent books. A selection can be viewed in the 30 Upstairs office.
