Hand drawn animation (still)
Edition of 3
Clara Wells’ work is primarily focussed on the interplay between empathy and abstraction in experiential filmmaking. She works with the traditional animation techniques of scratch-film, direct animation and hand drawn animation, combining these with abstract and distorted sequences of digital live-action to produce films, projections and installations. The works aim to engage viewers, to simultaneously be lost in the experience and to be challenged by the physical realities of filmmaking.
Clara was born in Christchurch, New Zealand (1990) and completed her Master of Fine Arts at the University of Canterbury (2015). She currently works from her studio in Hamilton, New Zealand.
