Many New Zealand artists have used text within their work; McCahon, Reynolds and Parekowhai have all wrestled out new meanings by placing text in and out of its original context within their work.
We use words to explain and define the world, through our feelings and assumptions meaning is created, but words can cause confusion when we try to communicate these felt experience to others.
I AM AM I, is part of a series of works that investigates the iterative nature of language and its ability to create patterns of thought that resonate through time. Words are repeated exponentially in the digital age, reinforcing their power and influence over us.
